COMMUNITY GUIDELINES

The NLTA encourages member engagement and productive discussions on the Teacher Voice Facebook Group. We welcome open discourse, however, the following community guidelines have been established and will be enforced:

Be professional, kind and courteous
This forum is designed to allow members to share and discuss information and ideas of interest to the membership. Please be professional and adhere to the NLTA Code of Ethics. In particular, you should not criticize your colleagues or post information that does or could identify anyone. As well, respect and protect the confidentiality of student/family personal information.

We will not tolerate harassment, abuse, or threats to others. The NLTA reserves the right to remove any posts that don’t adhere to our guidelines and remove members who violate them repeatedly. Specifically, the following will not be tolerated:

  • Profane, defamatory, offensive or violent language.
  • Attacks on specific groups or any comments that harass, threaten or abuse an individual.
  • Hateful or discriminatory comments regarding race, ethnicity, religion, gender, disability, sexual orientation or political beliefs.
  • Links or comments containing sexually explicit content material.
  • Graphic or disturbing photos, videos and other media.
  • Discussion of illegal activity or false representation.
  • Spam, link baiting or files containing viruses that could damage the operation of other people’s computers or mobile devices.
  • Acknowledgement of intent to stalk an individual or collect private information without disclosure.
  • Violations of copyright or intellectual property rights.
  • Content determined to be inappropriate, in poor taste, or otherwise contrary to the purposes of the forum.
  • Political commentary or campaigning.
  • Personal promotion.
  • Conduct contrary to the NLTA Code of Ethics

Stay on topic
Please ensure your comments are related to the topics posted. The NLTA reserves the right to remove comments that are purposely off topic or designed to disrupt the conversation. Trolling, or posting deliberately disruptive statements meant to hijack comment threads or throw discussions off-track will not be tolerated. Members who engage in such activity will be blocked from the group. Do not advertise your or other people’s businesses on this group or post other marketing materials. Those posts will be removed.

Social networks are public
Teacher Voice is a closed, private group for active NLTA members only. Should a non-member be identified they will be removed from the group. However, please think before you post! This is Facebook, one of the biggest sites on the internet – what goes up can never really come down. Please consider the purpose of this Facebook group when posting. Irrelevant content does not belong here.

Removal of posts and user bans
All opinions will be treated with mutual respect, unless they violate the aforementioned rules. Treat your fellow Facebook group members with that same respect and please look out for each other. Be aware that posting more than 5 discussions on the same day needs to be justified to the group administrator, or it will be considered spam.

We encourage all members to become familiar with the guidelines and if they feel a post violates a guideline, please report that to the group administrator.

The NLTA will remove any post that violates the Community Guidelines and in certain circumstances posters will be notified as to why the post has been removed. The NLTA will block users who continually violate the rules or otherwise abuse our guidelines – two warnings will be given; a third violation will result in removal from the group.

Disclaimer
For any specific or individual inquiries please refer to the NLTA website, specifically the Contact/Ask the NLTA page. Teacher Voice is a Facebook group and therefore not the venue for seeking assistance from NLTA staff with individual matters. The NLTA may respond to questions and correct any general misunderstandings posted in the group, however, the first priority for NLTA staff is to address questions and concerns that come forward through individual teacher contacts (phone calls and emails).
